1- Digital writing simply put is defined as, “Any writing that requires a computer to access it”(JodiAnn Stevenson). Digital writing today has excelled in many ways. Digital writing is any composition that is connected to the internet. Anything made with our digits is our digital writing. Content being passed and shared on the internet, because the internet is constantly changing.
2- I believe my parents love the fact that they are able to follow my location, and can constantly see where I am. I have taught my parents to become extremely tech savvy. They are now involved with social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. As well as being knowledgeable about apps on our smartphones. We have digital writing and various software applications around us at all times, condensing words, which are not grammatically correct. We are slowly becoming slaves to technology, we are always so quick to find the answer temporarily.
3- Digital writing matters in our daily lives, we are constantly consuming knowledge from digital outlets. For example, auto correct, I can only spell BANANAS by heart, due to the Gwen Stefani song. Furthermore, digital media saves environmental paper waste and is easier to submit homework. Digital writing is a better outlet for free speech, unfiltered desires, what you want, when you want it. All in you’re own words and your own opinions. You receive information a lot easier through social media, no one would know what anyones doing without digital writing. You can write stories online, screen plays, it’s simply your own work and your own ideas coming to life for the world to see.
4- For one, the bachelor is a weekly show that goes on for weeks, where you can vote simultaneously for who you want to keep that week or leave. They leave the decision making to the viewers. Another great example would be Dancing with the Stars, where each week we decided as viewers who goes home and who stays. We also use instagram to shop around for the next best thing. We multitask while watching TV, during a commercial. “ALEXA” is also a very useful tool for people, age range from 15-70. My parents bought my 75 year old grandma, “Alexa” and life has improved for them. You can attach “Alexa” to light you’re home and it connects to the internet, and she helps you with anything you need. Snapchat and instagram is another example, where it can scan your face to match a filter. Drone cameras can now fly around, are now compatible with internet and can viewed through you’re phone. Google now watches everything you do online, and curates what you like and what to view more, for example talking about peanut butter one day, and seeing an Ad on your sidebar of google the next day. Netflix also matches what you’ve been watching lately, and adjusts to your preferences. Music streaming through spotify and pandora also curates what you like and want. It autosaves this information for you automatically. Youtube and amazon also does the same thing, with what you’ve viewed the most or what you like the most. Phones are now wireless, everything is accessible to us from our smartphones. Pokemon go is virtual app that will track where you are in the real world, and put a Pokemon in the virtual world using VR technology. Companies are getting very good at product placement, such as monster energy drinks in video games and movies. Having their products promoted by gamers and movie fanatics, makes for an amazing commercial campaign.
5- Rhetorical view of writing focuses more on the direct medium, finding the best software online. If you wanted to convey something more conversational, you would post it on social media, based on your needs or the audience what would be best platform, from podcasting to blogging the choices are endless.
6- Digital writing is different from print based writing due to software. With technology advancing quickly, everything is done digitally. Technology simplifies many daily activities, such as watching movies, via youtube, amazon prime, and netflix, versus going in movies. My parents can now track me, constantly through an app. We send direct messages, through various platforms of social media. Digital writing platforms also saves you time for example, I personally can’t tell you how many times my computer has crashed with all my work unsaved on a word doc. Google has created this auto save feature, after each sentence is written, once exited, even on accident, all your work is saved on the cloud.
7- Our technology and techniques of writing style has changed tremendously within the last 20 years.Technology has evolved for instance, I started off with a flip phone that had internet, gps tracking, texting and calling. Then moved to an Iphone soon after that, at the age of 10 I had the latest gadgets of technology. Back 20 years ago they had work processors, computers, and blogging was big in the 2000s. Back then small companies did not have websites normally, and Aol instant messenger and chat room, was a huge form of communication. Digital writing has been around for decades, which has helped us grow today. They had ebay, but you would have to wait for the media mail for your package. Packages back then approximately took a week or 2. Now with amazon prime, we get our packages the next day. Smartphones came out in 2007, which was a touch screen digital phone. Projectors have evolved over time as well, growing up we always had the projector that you would write on the translucent paper and whip it down every time after use. Now we have projectors that connects with power points which is used to promote digital writing for educators and students. I’ve also taken an online course that is all digital writing and learning. Our professor didn’t want us to purchase a textbook, but instead the entire class was him lecturing and posting videos of him communicating with us, in a digital manner. Are attention span is more productive now, the fact that we are able to multitask is a expected skill. All our attention is being captured by things we see and consume daily. A great example would be google drive when you have two people sharing and working at the same time.
8- There’s some control over being able to do things on your own, although it’s a harder learning curve when you are comfortable with technology, educators that face the obstacle integrating into technology, don’t make teaching as entertaining for students. The idea that the new devices transform writing and what it means to be a writer. Recently I took a writing exam that was hand written and I didn’t pass the first 3 times I attempted, once I was able to take the exam on a computer, I passed. Technology is just more comfortable for me. You have more time to plan out and map out your ideas and thoughts on a computer, to copy, change, and paste overwriting it on paper. It is just more convenient.
